"I have only created Jinns and men, that They may serve Me"- (Sura Zariyat: 51:56)
"Who so ever built a Mosque with the intention of seeking Allah's pleasure, Allah will build for him a similar place in Paradise……." (Sahih Al-Bukhari. 1:16:441)
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahamatullahi Wa Barakatuhu. May Allah find you and your family in the
best of health and Islamic spirit - Ameen.
We are a group of brothers and sisters from the shore of Lake Michigan, who have taken
a humble initiative to build Dar-us-Sunnah Masjid and Community Center in Evanston, IL.
We live in the Chicago, USA area and have launched an ambitious plan to establish
Dar-us-Sunnah Masjid and Community Center that will serve as an anchor for the Muslim community in the
far north-west side of Chicago where no such center exists today but the Muslim population
continues to swell with new immigrants. Our community has meager resources but our need is far
greater than ever not only to provide religious services but more importantly to offer community and
social services to all of humanity irrespective of color, race, and national origin. The focal point of this
center will be to serve people from all walks of life in the rich tradition of Islamic principle and to
work on common grounds with others in order to resolve social problems and address contemporary issues.
May we count upon you to help us with your dua, and donation? With your contribution, we will be able to
establish a true center to serve humanity in the spirit of Islam.
The whole purpose of the creation of mankind is to worship our creator, the Almighty Allah. In other words,
we as Muslims will have to turn all activities of our life into Ibadah or worship. We need to do that for
the satisfaction of Allah and to ensure a berth in Jannah and to save ourselves from Jahannam (Hell Fire).
Today, we need to learn the way of complete submission to the will of Allah. It is high time that we make
an effort to implement the true teachings of Islam in order for us and for our next generation to be on
the right path, Insha Allah.
Dear Brothers and Sisters: The aim of Dar-us-Sunnah Masjid and Community Center is to establish an
Islamic Community Center in the far North West side of Chicago where no such center exists today but one is
greatly needed for the growing number of Muslims who live in that area. We believe that the center will bring
together Muslim brothers and sisters from all around the world towards the path of Allah as well as serve
the needs of Muslims and non-Muslims in the Chicago area. The project has received enormous broad base
support from our entire community and endorsement from leading organizations such as Muslim Community Center,
Chicago and ICNA’s Chicago chapter.
1. Earn satisfaction of Allah Subhanahu Wata'la.
2. Follow the examples set forth by our only role model, Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allahu Alaihi Wasallam).
3. Develop and implement programs in order for us to become better Muslims.
4. To fulfill the purpose, we have purchased a property (2045 Brown Avenue. Evanston, IL 60201),
and are using it as a Masjid and Islamic Center to hold our core programs. The facility will have
Islamic public library and necessary equipment for Islamic research, education and publications.
Above all, the center will be used to provide much needed community and social services.
The location for this center is selected based on many factors including the proximity to the majority of community,
availability of space, future expansion, zoning criteria, cost prospect of renting for steady source
of income for recurring expenses and etc. We have slowly and steadily raised funds in stages to complete
various phases of renovation of the center.
The programs of Dar-us-Sunnah Masjid and Community Center focus on better understanding of Islam and
serving the needs of our community.
The adult education programs emphasize the following of the Quran and practicing of the Sunnah.
The children’s educational programs aim at creating a platform for the Islamic education of the
next generation.
The focus of this center has been to provide much needed social, educational, and health
services to our needy neighbors irrespective of color, religion, and background. Specific examples of such programs
will include daily meal services, health counseling, education for children and adults, computer and technology
training, family counseling and services, women’s education and vocational training.
In essence, the center will be a platform for us to serve in the true cause of Allah. In the true
spirit of Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (PBUH), Dar-us-Sunnah Masjid and Community Center will focus
on providing local community and social services. This center will perform Dawa - disseminating
the message of Islam by virtue of charitable actions by serving the poor and needy and working together,
shoulder to shoulder, with our neighbors and people of other faiths.
Although the Masajid in and around the city of Chicago are addressing the religious needs of the growing
Muslim Community, a greater need has risen today for us to address the social and community challenges.
Dar-us-Sunnah Masjid and Community Center is justified because its mission is to play that dual role.
On one hand it will provide the much needed social, charitable, and community services to people of
all faiths and on the other hand it will be an anchor of Islamic values and principles.
Dar-us-Sunnah Masjid and Community Center can serve that role very well in the far north-west side of
Chicago where the growing population of Muslims from all over the world are establishing their roots.
The significance of building another community focused Islamic center in Chicago is enormous. It is said that the
City of Chicago has broad shoulders for caring and sharing. Dar-us-Sunnah Masjid and Community Center will exemplify
that very theme in the light of Islamic values and guidance.
Dar-us-Sunnah Masjid and Community Center is led by a Majlis-e-Shura (Board of Directors). The Shura is responsible
for the overall policy, guidance and activities. Both the President and the Islamic center Imam report to the Majlis-e-Shura.
The President supervises all administrative affairs of the center while the Imam is responsible for
all non-administrative affairs including education and program. The Imam ensures that all necessary policy
and programs are developed and implemented to achieve center's objective. All of these are accomplished under
the rule of Shariah prescribed by Quran and Sunnah.
The single most compelling reason to contribute and participate has to be to seek the pleasure of Allah and to utilize
the opportunity of earning perpetual blessings, or Sadaqat-ul-Jariah. Some of the gains that we expect to achieve from
the Masjid and Islamic center are described below.
According to Ayub-Bin-Musa (RA), the Prophet (pbuh) said that no father expects anything better than ensuring that
his children have the best of the characters (Tirmidhi).
Dar-us-Sunnah Masjid and Community Center provides a place for the families to converge, reinstate and nurture the
feeling of unity and Islamic brotherhood. Thus, the center helps create a strong bond between individuals and families
where Muslim gather to exchange ideas and invest in teaching their families and youth Islamic education. The Masjid
can ideally assume the role of revitalizing the Islamic way of life by serving as the crucible that feeds the flame of
Islamic revival.
Considering vast magnitude of the socio-economic opportunities and personal liberties that are currently available
in the United States, we might be regarded as fortunate group of people. However, it is also undoubtedly true that
we are faced with two major socio-religious responsibilities. Firstly, we must create a community where we will be
able to ensure ourselves and the future generations to maintain and flourish our strong Islamic values. Secondly,
we must acquire strength and abilities to help other communities.
Those who spend their wealth in the cause of Allah and do not follow their charity with reminders of their generosity
or hurtful words — they will get their reward from their Lord, and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve.
(Sura: Baqara 2:262)
We urge you to make generous contribution to Dar-us-Sunnah, a center with the humble mission of pleasing Allah and
following the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (PBUH).
